City of Winterthur
The masterplan shows the way for a large-scale upgrading of this strategically important district. Unlike all previous plans, the master plan focuses on an integral, holistic view and the creation of synergies. The plan proposes to run the A1 motorway between Steig and Nägelsee in a tunnel. In this section, both protected residential areas and major development potential are situated. In addition, significant ecological improvements are possible here, such as the continuous renaturation of the Töss river (today covered by the motorway) and the connection to the forests on both sides of the valley. The new proposed train station "Dättnau" will not only offer direct connections to Zurich and the Airport, but will also connect the current suburban districts to the rest of the city.
